Abstract : The present study aimed to study the characters of some xanthid larvae in different coastal area of Saudi Arabia Red Sea. Xanthid crab are common and speciose in macrofaunal communities of intertidal and shelf reef habitats worldwide. Of the ca. 1300 genera and 7000 species of brachyuran crabs enlisted, 639 species were xanthids from 124 genera belonging in 15 subfamilies. Due to their great abundance, they may be considered as one of the most relevant groups of the marine benthos, both in terms of biomass and community structure. Some xanthid species are enable sea food in some region, while others poisoning to animals and human. Xanthid larvae are used in various laboratory experiments. The effect of some the insectsides (Dieldrin) dissolved in sea water and\or food was investigated on survival and development xanthid larvae. The rearing studies in the laboratory and moderate description of the larvae have allowed to be identified clearly since the adults are of known species. One of the major handicaps to developing the larval studies is a few of xanthid larval descriptions and this has disallowed marine biologists from identify the majority of species in the plankton even to subfamily level. The study of larvae may be explain the adapted this larvae to the same habitat and planktonic environment, so the setal patterns of larval appendage must be take care to more or less constant selection pressures. The adult xanthid were found in the shallow water near the shore and more abundance, ovigerous can easy collected without trouble. This due to that the first zoeal stages of xanthid known more than other brachyuran families. Yet, larval development is known for only a small percentage of species of xanthid larva (ca. 69 species and 36 genera assigned in 11 subfamilies). The important reason for this difficulty is that so few xanthid larvae have been described and many of the earlier studies are incomplete and brief description, often without illustrations. Also, other reason, even recently studies placement some genra of xanthoidea into new super familly, so their described as xanthidea. In this present study, the larvae of 23 species and 11 genera belonged to 8 subfamilies of xathid were obtained and description in details and comparison with others. Under laboratory condition and from ovigerous xanthid crabs, Leptodius exaratus and Cymo melanodastulus completed development larvae up to megalopa, Etisus electra rich up to third stages, tow zoeal stages of Cymo quadrilobatus , Luniella spinpes and Cyclodius sp2 while other species (15 spices) not successfully to moulting to next stage.
