Abstract : Adhesively bonded joints have been widely used in engineering application due to their improved mechanical performance when compared with the other classical mechanical methods of fastening such as rivets or bolts. This study is establishing a solution of single lap joint with functionally graded material based on Chalita and Othamn’s model in order to have an adhesive with shear modulus that varies gradually along its length, being minimum at the edges of the joints and maximum at the middle. Moreover, the FGM model is developed with the purpose of getting a better stress distribution along the overlap and reducing the shear stress concentration at the overlap edges, and good reduction percentage in the Adhesive shear stress is achieved. Furthermore, a numerical model is carried out by 2D finite element analysis (ANSYS) to validate the analytical model. The validation process is performed based on the deformation frequency response and the maximum shear stress frequency response of the joint. Good compatibility in the results is obtained.
