Abstract : Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the primary reason for mortality and handicap globally with ongoing growth in occurrence. Increased level of biomarkers, is one way to diagnose AMI and in addition to their role in diagnosis, they also provide necessary prognostic information about the disease. Although, the high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), cardiac Troponin T (cTnT) and cardiac Troponin I (cTnI), are useful biomarkers in AMI diagnosis, the focus of our study is to evaluate the relationship of serum level of (hs-CRP), (cTnT) and (cTnI) and their prognostic significance in patients with AMI. Materials and methods: This study was carried on 22 healthy individuals as a control group and 26 patients with AMI on the first and third days of the onset of the attack. The age ranged between 35 - 73 years. Venous blood samples were collected in plain tubes during the 1st and 3rd day of AMI in CCU. Serum hs-CRP, cTnI, and cTnT levels were measured using commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits (ELISA). Results: The level of serum hs-CRP was significantly higher in AMI patients on the 1st day and the 3rd day of AMI than its level in the control group. The value of cTnI on the 1st and 3rd day was significantly higher than controls. The level of cTnT was markedly higher on the 1st day and the 3rd day of AMI as compared to its level in the control group. For patients who were discharged on the 3rd day of AMI, the level of serum hs-CRP was higher, while the serum level of cTnI and cTnT were lower than their levels in the non-discharged patients with insignificant P-value. Conclusion: From our results, it is concluded that hs-CRP, cTnI, and cTnT cannot be used as prognostic indicators for AMI patients during the 3 days.
