Abstract : A printed 2D aerial photo converted to a digital form can be assumed as a surface in 3D, with the third dimension being the gray-level intensity of pixel at each image point. A 3D image appears as a mountainous landscape, with each structure in the image is represented as a series of mountains and valley. In this case, pixel profile usually used in order to extract the height data (z-coordinate) taken from the gray-scale value of the tested image. We use this method to extract the height data from an aerial image according to pixel profile taken at each image point. In this paper, we report a result and its comparison using commercial software in the market likes Bersoft Image Measurement, efgLabs and Image-Pro Plus.
